Да, именно костыль..
Так почему не работает в xorg параметр Virtual?
P.S. нашел в kwin опции, чтобы в том числе и менять размер окна для
разных приложений.. Но это я сейчас вынужденно в КДЕ3 (xfce накрылся,
icewm тоже), а потом что делать..? Синтаксисом для winoptions я не
владею, хотя поискать кусочки информации могу..
