Можно ли как-нибудь графическими средствами (alterator?) установить
частоту обновления монитора, или же нужно вручную лезть в конфиги Х-ов?

А чем КДЕ-шный ГУЙ не нравится? Щелнуть по р.с.: "настройки раб. стола"
- "дисплей" и выставляй.

И точно есть. Но что-то у человека, который меня об этом спрашивал, не
удавалось оттуда выставить рефреш.
Похоже, я не правильно понял проблему.
Судя по всему, у него драйвер vesa или vga стоит. С ними, как понимаю,
частоту обновления выставить нельзя?
