Да отдельные деятели, которые возомнили свою немеряную круть от
того, что хоть что-то взбуталось из собранного, развешивают на
подставленные уши. Вон слакваристов возьми, у них таких мантр
запасы некопаны.

Не грузите их. Повод для пересборки видел только один --
принципиальное недоверие стеку ipv6.

Вы про patch-o-matic? И нужных патчей точно нет ни в 2.6.18,
ни в 2.6.24? Ну можете попробовать с peet@ придумать, какие
бы повтягивать индивидуально полезные патчи в его
маршрутизаторную сборку. Это действительно полезней,
чем тащить всё ядро самому. Поверьте, плавали, знаем.
