Сейчас повторить это я не смогу - нет возможности ставить Window Maker,
но раньше я (в прошлом году) при помощи различных команд и утилит
мониторинга сравнивал количество памяти, занимаемое именно процессами
того или иного wm, количество процессорного времени и т.д.
Полученные результаты совпали с результатами в сети - Icewm потребляет
ресурсов немного меньше, чем Window Maker, разница 1-2 мб и пара-тройка
процентов процессорного времени. XFCE с ними рядом не стоит вообще - о
чем говорить, если Gkrellm, сплошь увешанный нужными и ненужными
бирюльками, потребляет ресурсов столько же, сколько всего лишь 2
апплета панели xfce, но гораздо более функционален..
Как видите разница невелика - она ощутима лишь при количестве памяти
16-32 мб, другое дело - различия между Icewm и WM - тут уже кому как
нравится.. Мне нравится и то, и другое. Window Maker тоже поддается
"дрессировке" и может выглядеть оригинально и не совсем обычно (есть
мой скриншот WM на ЛОР).
Однако не стоит сбрасывать со счетов тот факт, что WM давно не
развивается, в отличие от Icewm.
