Если есть предпринимательский дух -- можете попробовать втащить
туда ядро 2.6.24, как раз alt1 вышло:

(нужно взять kernel-image и, возможно, пакеты с драйвером для
видеокарты -- nvidia или fglrx/ATI -- и rpm -ivh их)
