Понятно. Для этого не надо ходить в x-ы от рута. Надо переучиться на другую
идеологию. Всё-таки, это не Windows.
Как уже сказали, "su -" (или просто su, в зависимости от того, какое окружение
надо получить) в открытой консоли. Если X-ы не грузятся, то надо добавить single
при загрузке, система загрузится в init 1, там надо будет начать с того, что
поменять в /etc/inittab в строке
id:5:initdefault:
5 на 3, после этого система будет стартовать без X, запускать от пользователя,
как уже сказали, startx и смотреть, что и как. Про lilo и noacpi написали, я
бы уточнил, что добавлять стоит для отдельного варианта, чтобы, если что, проще
было откатываться. Ну а потом можно 3 на 5 поменять в inittab, как виснуть
перестанет.
И да, поставить mc (хотя рискую нарваться на яйца с помидорами :-) )
