alterator-net-pppoe обновил до 0.4.2, кстати -- у меня и так
работало то, что он настроил, но одно дело стенд, другое --
что все советуют ещё mtu 1492 ставить.

Так мигрировать с разбегу и вообще не помогает, для начала лучше
dual boot или livecd. Некоторые применяют colinux под виндой,
но это скорее "когда на работе деваться некуда".
Разве что если другого выхода нет, но до такого лучше
не доводить...

А здесь не стоит беситься, скорее наоборот: редко какие грабли,
особенно в основной системе, а не каком опенофисе, по вдумчивом
рассмотрении ("как это должно работать? откуда разматывается
ниточка? докуда она ещё добегает нормально?") находились
объективные и зачастую просто смешные причины таких проблем,
что сперва -- ну хоть головой об стенку бейся. :)
