Что-то с MySQL не впорядке, chroot это конечно не плохо, только к вопросу куда
mysql.sock писать, он весма творчески подходит, не очень интересуясь, что там
в конфиге указано. Пришлось ручками /var/lib/mysql/var/lib/mysql создать.
При
chroot=/var/lib/mysql
socket =/mysql.sock
Получаем

or directory

socket: /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock ?
