Надо, всё-таки, теорию подучить. В частности, по файловым системам.
vmlinuz - символическя ссылка. Затёрлась не она, она, как раз, и
осталась (!vmlinuz). Пропал файл, на который она указывала. Почему
пропал - решать Вам, просто так не должен был.
Кстати, я lilo.conf сразу правлю в плане того, чтобы симлинк не
использовался.
