Нет, просто BIOS был явно сломан и, видимо, чуточку починен.
Драйвер "i810" есть в любом неископаемом десктопном дистрибутиве,
в 4.0 есть и более новый, но менее проверенный, "intel".
Кажется, с i845 должны работать оба.
xdriver=i810 и xdriver=fbdev проверили после перешивки и на 4.0?

Возможно, в ACPI чего-то накрутили, но тут уж не подскажу.
