modules.config? Или все-таки modules.conf?
Еще можно попробовать в /etc/modprobe.d создать файлик local c ранее
указанным содержимым:
options ipw2200 led=1 debug=0x00020000
Параметр led=1 отвечает за моргание огонечка. По умолчанию в драйвере
выключен, ибо способен привести к зависанию. Если сеть настроена и
работает, как-то должен себя проявлять - мигать, или гореть.
Параметр debug разрешает вывод в syslog сообщений, о включении/выключении
передатчика при помощи соответствующей аппаратной кнопки.
