Эта переменная фигурирует в известном guide для использования MS Fonts
в SuSE. Здесь:http://en.opensuse.org/Optimal_Use_of_MS_TrueType_Core_Fonts_for_a_KDE_Desktop_on_SuSE#Installing_the_fonts

У нас несколько иначе собрана libxft, может быть, их извраты
просто не нужны. :)
