скачал отсюда
ftp://ftp.altlinux.ru/pub/distributions/ALTLinux/3.0/files/i586/RPMS/
все, что относится к xmms. поставил.поставилось нормально, но в
меню-кракозябры жуткие! Т.е. я такого даже в винде не видел... Пытаюсь
поставить кириллицу( как я понимаю, это
xmms-cyr-setup-1.2.10-alt8.i586.rpm) а оно мне пишет -
xfree86-cyr-rfx-fonts-koi8r и cp1251 not installed. Как такое может
быть и как с этим бороться?
Скачал оттуда же все, что относится к Mplayer. Пытаюсь ставить его -
выскакивает сообщение что он уже already installed. пытаюсь запустить
его из меню - ничего не происходит. Где он прячется и как его
запустить?

потом в настройках xmms вписать нужный шрифт для окон (что-то вроде такого

mplayer вообще-то консольный, так в консоль и mplayer file.avi
есть еще всякие GUI к нему типа kplayer kmplayer gmplayer.
