Драйвер какой в /etc/X11/XF86config (или как там бишь его звали)
прописался? Возможны два варианта: S3 и VESA, второй слегка более
работоспособный. На крыльях ночи. Поменяйте один на другой. Попробуйте
S3 с какой-нибудь noaccel опцией. Попробуйте спрятать конфиг и запустить
XFree86 -configure, посмотрите, что оно само на этот счёт думает.
Если видео не встроенное, поищите в ближайших окрестностях технопомойку
и возьмите оттуда почти что любую другую PCI видюху. Их должно
оставаться у тех, кто делал upgrade на AGP.
