Ветку просто не надо ломать, тогда понятно будет. Началось всё с установки

Касается сервера, где, как правило, стараются лишнего не держать.

Тот же Бранч 3.0 + апдейты. Если совсем по новее, ещё бакпорты.
В общем, если Compact 3.0.4 отдельно выходил, можно его искать. Если с
трафиком проблем нет, то
ftp://ftp.altlinux.ru/pub/distributions/ALTLinux/3.0/iso/compact-3.0.4.iso
И остальное из репозитария apt-ом дотащить. Всякие *-devel в смысле.
