Евгений, если Вы в _этой_ рассылке отмотаете лет пять назад
(или больше), то увидите не одно сообщение на эту тему. Я ставил
последовательно несколько версий Red-Hat по мере их появления.
Никаких сложностей в установке и сборке собственного ядра нет. И
оно действительно, работает в несколько раз быстрее, чем под
Solaris. Эксперименты я проводил на самой младшей модели - Sparc
Classic, которая по времени шла на смену 386-машинам. В итоге
это занятие мне быстро надоело, так как мой
сверхоптимизированный компьютер в несколько раз уступал по
производительности любому P II.
По первой реплике видно, что обсуждать эту тему здесь
бесполезно, пусть спят. Не существует ни sparc, ни ppc. Хорошо
бы x86_64 дождаться...
