Вообщем вчера, придя домой после второй смены, ничего лучше не придумал как в ~/.xmms/xmms.m3u оставить одну строку #EXTM3U и установить на него права 444.
Теперь все быстро запускается с пустым плэй-листом.
На том и остановился.
