Они там частично открытые, хотя и называются OpenSource.

В Master 2.4 версия 1.35.

Видимо, между версиями ядер 2.4.18 и 2.4.26 произошло какое-то
изменение, с которым драйверы от HPT несовместимы. С драйверами "от
производителя" такое происходит сплошь и рядом (правда, в ядрах 2.4.x
это случается существенно реже, чем сейчас в 2.6.x). К тому же
тестировались эти драйверы, скорее всего, на каких-нибудь RedHat, а
там ядра 2.4.x содержат очень большое количество патчей.

Ну так используйте md вместо реализации RAID от HPT (где RAID тоже
программный). Вроде бы в M2.4 даже работает установка на md (в 2.2
это было сломано).
