Это не проще - это другая задача ;-) Когда тема выставлена в
"core" libXcursor берёт картинки для курсоров из специального
фонта "cursor", если там что-то другое - libXcursor грузит и
использует картинки их темы...

Возможно, вы уже успели заметить, что после обновления пакета app-defaults
до версии 0.2.6-alt1 в системе что-то стало работать не так, как положено.
