Там лежат данные, которые нужны для работы сервера как то: база данных
почтовых ящиков и папок, дуполовка, база данных квот и тд.

Нверное это был неправильный мед от неправильных пчел :)
Положить ключи и сертификаты в /var/lib/imap еще как-то можно понять, но
класть в /var/spool/imap это совсем неправильно.
