Щазз. В 2.3 поддерживается больш-во модемов, так что давайте разбираться.

Не надо ничего собирать рутом. Да и не дадут.

Правильнее 'su -', т.к. иначе в /home/gorki могут появиться файлы с
правами рута, и будут глюки.

apt-get install rpm-build
В старых версиях rpm (точнее, libpopt вроде бы) при отсутствии пакета
rpm-build вылезало такое вот некрасивое сообщение.

А вот это правда.

И не должно, сборка в домашнем каталоге идти должна.

Точно не помню/не знаю, с rpm некоторые малоиспользуемые ключи не работают
(--nosource вроде бы). В больш-ве ситуаций разницы нет.
