У меня работает.
Ну а если серьёзно, возможно, что не включена звуковая
подсистема. Я сижу в KDE, поэтому могу сказать, что в
нём она включается примерно так: KDE Control center
-> Sound(s) (узел в дереве слева) -> Sound (sub)system.
Здесь надо поставить флажок в соответствующем месте.
Возможно проблема именно в этом.
