Можно удалить design-bootsplash-... пакеты. Можно поправить
/etc/sysconfig/bootsplash и перегенерить initrd командой mkinitrd.

А какой фреймбуфер у Вас сейчас? Похоже в /etc/sysconfig/framebiuffer не
заглядывали? Если в lilo указано vga=NNN, то работает vesafb на всех
консолях. Нужно, в lilo поставить vga=normal и мучать
/etc/sysconfig/framebuffer.
