А какая разница что там в байтах?

Дык дело в единообразии.
Факт -- юникод _нужен_. Пусть не всем, но заметной части пользователей.
Если его вводить, то проще всё на него перетаскивать. Геморрою меньше
будет.

Реально имеют значение (и очень большое) первые два пункта. Остальное не
важна. Правильно написаная программа не должна обращать внимания на такие
мелочи :)
