Скорее всего в initrd не установились модули, которые нужны ядру для загрузки.
Почитайте /usr/share/doc/kernel-doc-std-х.х.хх/initrd.txt как подмонтировать
initrd.img и посмотрите какие модкли там есть. Затем добавьте их в свой.
