Конкретно про ALTLinux ничего сказать не могу.
Недавно приобретал себе DWL-G520+, поэтому пришлось довольно сильно
повозиться, но в конечном итоге все-таки удалось всё заставить работать.

Если речь идет именно о DWL-520 (без плюса) В данном случае мало знать
название адаптера. Есть несколько вариантов этого адаптера, построенные на
разных чипах. Соответственно и дрова разные под них нужны будут, и работать
они могут с разной долей вероятности.
Если речь идет о DWL-520+, то этот адаптер точно построен на чипе acx100.. И
здесь вроде все нормально работает. Во всяком случае у меня..
