Посмотрел я этот драйвер... похоже, диагноз - в морг :-\
Этот драйвер использует способы блокировки (save_flags, restore_flags,
cli), которые были устаревшими ещё во времена ядер 2.2.x. В 2.6.x
поддержку этого способа на SMP убрали окончательно. Так что с ядрами
2.6.x с поддержкой SMP этот драйвер работать не будет, если его
разработчики не разберутся с этой проблемой (эти вызовы там делаются из
закрытого бинарного куска).
С другой стороны, slmodem сейчас умеет работать и без этого драйвера -
через ALSA (snd-intel8x0m). Но пакет slmodemd в Сизифе до сих пор не
пересобран с поддержкой ALSA.
