Усё, выяснил. Не нужно было выставлять параметр "option buffersize 1024".
Вывод: нельзя слепо доверять всему, что валяется в просторах интернета...
В том числе бездумно копировать конфиги, которые даны лишь в качестве примера.
ЗЫ Личные впечатления от работы сканера: Темно. Чертовски темно. Особенно при
цветном сканировании. И цвета врёт. Для сканирования фотографий не годится.
