Нет, ну почему же? Вот например MacOSX/Cocoa. На самом деле всё
зависит от runtime. Тесты кто-то делал, сравнивал GNU libobjc с
Cocoa и OPENSTEP, правда я не особо интересовался этим вопросом.
Можете погуглить на досуге.
А так GNUstep сам по себе довольно тяжеловат...

Сейчас в Сизифе есть Cacao/Coconut, две библиотеки классов
(http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~em7t-hmd/), правда я пока с ними не
разбирался.
