по-моему была, поищи в архивах рассылки, тема поднималась

модем софтовый, он не занимает физического порта, а в ваших метелках он
назначается на com3 драйвером, для удобства пользования.

нет.
могу ошибиться (очень давно это было) но что-то вроде /dev/ttyHCF0.
Ищи в архивах.
Проверь, установлены ли пакеты hcfpcimodem или что-то типа того.
