Надо ли понимать так, что раз вы делали установку по сети и не хотели
иксы, то вы устанавливали сервер? А потом обновляли его из Сизифа?
А теперь на это и ругаетесь?
Насчёт древностей. У меня дома Мастер 2.2 в качестве рабочей станции, с
кое-чем пересобранным из Сизифа. Вполне устраивает не только для работы,
но и для развлечения домашних.

Может быть, woody? Или вы юзаете древности из STABLE?
А насчёт инсталлятора тут уже всё сказали. Он-то как раз от Мандрейка
остался.
