По-моему вы написали "сделать как в винде". ;)
Наличие виндоус не обязательное требование для установки самбы.
Кроме того, некоторые разработчики Самба Тим в приватных беседах
утверждали, что самба обладает большой самостоятельной
ценностью независимо от факта существования видноус, и что
другого аналогичного по функциональности продукта просто не существует в
природе. В принципе, утверждение похожее на правду.
Конечно получить тот же функционал без использования самбы не проблема - тогда
копать надо в первую очередь в сторону man bash sh - как известно, в нашем юниксе
программируя на шелле можно сделать все, что угодно в обозримые сроки. Собрать
таким образом роаминг профайл и т.п. - право, не трудно. Самба хороша тем, что
предоставляет интегрированное решение.
