Версия довольно древняя - надо бы попробовать на чём-то посвежее.
Проверьте как следует alsamixer - там может быть какой-то странный
переключатель (типа External Amplifier Power Down). Если не
поможет, покажите вывод команд:
amixer contents
cat /proc/asound/card0/codec97\#0/ac97\#0-0
