1. Вернуть драйвер nvidia.
2a. Использовать софтварный эквалайзер (-vf eq или -vf eq2, man
mplayer), если хватает мощности компьютера
2b. Или поставить новую версию драйвера от NVidia (на 4496 уже работает)
2с. Или попробовать поставить новую версию MPlayer'а и использовать в
качестве видео дивайса драйвер xvidix для nvidia (при этом mplayer
должен быть suid-root или запускаться от рута)
2d. Или попробовать играть фильмы на дивайсе x11 (mplayer -vo x11)
Объяснение всем этим неудобствам простое: поддержка расширения XVideo в
стоящем у Вас драйвере от НВидии весьма неполна (Сравните вывод xvinfo на
Вашей машине и у кого-нибудь, скажем, с какой-нибудь ATI Rage IIc или
Rage128, н-р). MPlayer по умолчанию использует (пытается использовать)
хардварный эквалайзер и на старом драйвере у него это не получается.
