В /etc/apt/apt.conf стоИт что-то вроде
Hold {
// Old-style kernels.
"^(kernel|alsa)[0-9]+-source";
};
Ядро нужно ставить отдельно
apt-get install kernel...-up#2.4.20-altN
может быть kernel...-up#2.4.20-altN@i586
