Значит Вы поставили не сам mplayer, а его исходники.

Настоятельно рекомендую выполнять установку ПО с помощью утилиты apt-get.
В терминале наберите 'su -', на запрос введите пароль пользователя 'root'.
После этого вставьте CD1 ALT Junior 2.2 и наберите 'apt-cdrom add'. Этим
Вы добавите в базу данных APT содержимое этого диска. Точно тоже самое
проделайте с CD2.
После этого вы можете пользоваться всеми возможностями apt, например:
apt-get install mplayer сам определит какие пакеты необходимо доставить
для корректной работы mplayer, и предложит их автоматически поставить. От
Вас будет требоваться только согласиться и вставить нужные диски по
запросу.
Кроме этого есть утилита apt-cache, помогающая найти нужный Вам пакет.
