Спасибо за ответы, я разобрался где был затык.
Проблема была в том что в версии 4.29 (которая стояла у меня) при отсутствии
wget скрипт апдейта не ругался, а просто молча выходил.
Проапдейтил до 4.30 и тогда скрипт апдейта из этой версии мне об этом так и
сказал: "постаь вгет". поставил - все работает.
