Наконец-то и на моей системе случилось то, о чём я только
раньше читал в рассылках.
[root@localhost root]# rpm -qa | grep fglrx
fglrx_kernel-up-2.4.20_2.5.1-alt7
fglrx-2.5.1-alt1
fglrx_kernel-up-2.4.20_2.5.1-alt7
[root@localhost root]# rpm --rebuilddb
[root@localhost root]# apt-cache search fglrx
E: There are two or more versions of the package 'fglrx_kernel-up' installed in your system, which is a situation APT can't handle cleanly at the moment.
Please do one of the following:
1) Keep at most one version of the package in the system; or
2) If you do want to keep multiple versions of that package, lookup RPM::Allow-Duplicated in the documentation.
E: Error occured while processing fglrx_kernel-up (UsePackage2)
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/rpm/Packages
Что теперь делать -- ставить систему заново?

# rpm --help
все о себе расказывает
# rpm -e fglrx --allmatches

Да, спасибо, сейчас всё в норме. Почему-то не сработала
стандартная рекомендация rpm --rebuilddb.
