Если модем аппаратный просто сделать ссылку на порт на котором висит
модем
типа
ls -s /dev/ttyS0 /dev/modem
это если модем висит на COM1
если COM2 то /dev/ttyS1 и т.д.
А kudzu лучше вообще вырубить как совершенно бесполезную вещь.
chkconfig kudzu off
Если меняете железо и хотите kudzu - запустите ее руками.
