не было - я добавил туда строку
<dir>/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/japanese-ttf</dir>
сделал xset fp rehash
ЗАРАБОТАЛО !!!
Домо аригато !!!
ЗЫ Почему-то думал что строчка должна добавляться при установке rpm ?
или не так ?
