Можно было бы собрать и отдельно - проблема в том, что в ядре есть

Ну, всегда остаётся вариант "собрать руками"...
В принципе можно попытаться подпилить i2c-nforce2.c для сборки со
старым i2c - там даже #ifdef на эту тему стоит, но он неправильный.
Тогда всё остальное можно будет оставить от старого ядра.
