Именно.

Простейший вариант -- не настраивать bttv-audio вообще, если
таковая настройка приводит к проблемам.
По-хорошему -- так или иначе засунуть его _после_ реальной
звуковой карты.

То, что автоматизируется, должно отрабатываться автоматикой.

А мне линукс понравился тем, что в отличие от доса, тупорылым его
назвать сложно. Автодетект (см. тот же dmesg) -- на уровне,
только аргументированный и логгируемый.
