Ну, так сначала же надо убедиться, что файлы configure и
Makefile действительно есть. А если их нет, значит,
вышеописанная процедура неприменима.

Из исходных текстов компилировать в данном случае очень заморочно
будет. Посему и выложен бинарный тарбол, то есть архив с уже
откомпилированной программой, которую прямо сразу по распаковке можно
запускать.
