Data socket timed out
вот таким образом, все время на одном и том же месте, виснет передача. НО это
не проблема updates.altlinux.com, и не проблема apt ;)
виснет так же при попытке закачать или скачать с соседнего компьютера по ftp.
например, в mc.
с одним файлом виснет все время в одном и том же месте.
НО только если этот файл больше какого-то размера (файлы в 10-50 кб не виснут)
рядом стоит такой же компьютер, с таким же мастером 2.2 и такими же условиями
подключения - ничего не виснет.
Различаются они только сетевыми картами.
На том, что виснет, стоит

может, с такими картами и драйвером это известная проблема какая? ;)
