Это зря. Должно быть Device "/dev/input/mice", Option "Protocol"
"IMPS/2" (ядро эмулирует этот протокол).

Попробуйте выполнить от рута:
rmmod usbmouse
modprobe hid
Возможно, что-то изменится. (Драйвер usbmouse больше 5 кнопок не
знает, а на самом деле и колесо обрабатывать не должен.)
Кроме того, кнопки с номерами больше 5 в X поддерживаются не
полностью.
