Вирусы, заражающие винды могут быть, например, в почте, которую пропускает
через себя почтовый линукс-сервер.

Он может понадобиться хотя-бы для того, что-бы проверять проходящую
через него информацию - почту, файлы на samba сервере и т.д.

Он нужен, если Linux используется как файловый и/или почтовый сервер с
win-клиентами.
