А зачем? Все dll ставятся в тот каталог, который указан как
"System" Если я не прав (ну если программа кривая и в ней путь
мёртво прописан), тогда можно сделать ссылку system на system32

Она сама загрузится при необходимости, никуда её дописывать не
надо.

Где именно указание пути? В конф. файле просто пишите пробел и
всё.
В скрипте /usr/bin/wine, например, есть ошибка, из-за которой
нельзя указать в параметрах путь с пробелами. Хотя по-простому
можно wine стереть, и сделать ссылку wine на wine.bin.

Ограничение на 8 символов было в ОС MS-DOS. В Linux его нет :)
