Сам не пробовал , врать не буду, но хочу высказать свои
соображения:
1 для IDE-существуют мобил-рэки с возможностью хотсвапа, в них
установлен буфер, который перед вытаскиванием винчестера
переводит линии интерфейса в Z-состояние.
2 ИМХО, по барабану, какой IDE-контроллер.
3 В Win2K горячая замена работает.
4 В Линуксе , надо смотреть в сторону hdparm ,
ключики -R и -U :

hardware made specifically for hot-swapping (very
