в mozille сходить на localhost:631
или lynx localhost:631
Может firewall не пускает?
У меня во время загрузки printerdrake в /var/log/messages

# lsmod | grep port показывает
parport_pc 25288 1 (autoclean)

# lsmod | grep usb
usb-uhci 21260 0 (unused)
usbcore 57780 1 [printer usb-uhci]
Может в свете последних рекомендаций по security ядра что-то
делали с modprobe?
