Это очень похоже на то, что произошла какая-то
серьёзная ошбика на рутовой файловой системе. Из-за
этого она и не монтируется. Попробуйте загрузиться с
соседней системы и сделать fschk. У меня так сломалась
ReiserFS, когда умер IDE-контроллер.
